In a battle of the two undefeated teams in the OCAA Women’s volleyball league, Trent defeated the Loyalist Lancers three games to one in the Trent gym Thursday night. The first three games were tight scoring affairs, 25-21 and 25-22 for Trent and 25-22 for the Lancers but Trent dominated the final game 25-16. Coach Peter Carter praised his players for their gritty play, singling out Elie Hanson for getting her team a big point at a most critical time. “The team closed well in what was an important test for them on the way to the Provincial championship.” The team plays again Wednesday, November 18 against George Brown College in Toronto.
The Trent men’s volleyball team had a disappointing outing against Loyalist College Thursday, losing three straight games 25-20, 25-23 and 25-23. The team played hard and was in every game but mistakes at key times kept them winless. Coach Rusty Haines expressed his frustration that his team, with more than enough talent to win, are playing too tentatively at times. “At this point in such a short season, our only hope for the playoffs is to continue working hard in practice.” The team plays next Saturday, November 24 away against Georgian College.
