What Volunteers Do
They write articles, sure, but they also do a bunch of other crucial tasks. Our Board of Directors members are volunteers. Volunteers help us fix up our website, plan events, recruit volunteers, assist with fundraising, take photos, email us with story ideas, and a whole lot more. If you're enthusiastic about Arthur, we can find a way for you to help us out. You definitely don't have to be a reporter to make a huge difference to what we accomplish. Drop by our office, come to a story meeting, or email us, and we'll find something for you to do that suits your skills and your goals. We are happy to provide training where required.
Story Meetings
Updated, Nov. 1 2011: All Story Meetings are at 1pm in our office in Sadleir House.
The best way to find out about volunteer opportunities and to meet Arthur staff is to attend a story meeting.
These meetings are where we review the previous issue, discuss what articles are going in the next issue, and decide which contributors will cover them. Even if you are not a writer yourself, you're welcome to attend story meetings to pitch story ideas to the staff collective. Story meetings are also where we match up writers and photographers - does your story need a photo? Come to the story meeting. Wanna know what to take pictures of this week? Come to a story meeting.
Story meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. There's always pizza! If you can’t make it to the story meeting, email us at

and we can set an alternate meeting time or discuss your story ideas over the phone or email.
Submission Guidelines
Deadlines for articles are Mondays at noon, while letters and listings are due Thursdays by noon unless prior arrangements have been made with the editors. It is possible to arrange for later deadlines provided that this arrangement is made well prior to the Monday deadline. Submissions must include your name and phone number. You may ask to have your name withheld from publication. Please submit your stories as an email attachment in the .doc file format.
Articles are to be no more than 800 words, opinion pieces no more than 600 words, and announcements a maximum of 50 words. Letters to the editor that are more than 200 words may be published, but Arthur reserves the right to edit letters for length.
