ABOUT:

The Seasoned Spoon is a non-profit, vegetarian, cooperative café located in Champlain College at Trent University. As well as serving delicious, affordable, local, and organic food, we also provide several educational initiatives through volunteer opportunities, workshops, speakers, and conferences. The Spoon cooperative has over 400 members, most of whom are staff and students of Trent University.

Food: We source our food locally! Much of our food comes from the Trent Vegetable Gardens on campus. We cook, freeze, ferment and preserve the garden abundance to last us throughout the year. The delicious meals we offer are seasonal, local, and mostly organic. They are made with whole foods from scratch by dedicated cooks. The menu changes everyday and with the seasons.

Space: The Spoon is a beautiful and relaxing space to read, visit, study, hold a meeting - open to everyone. The Spoon is a community hub for people to gather and get involved in food initiatives.

Education: We host bi-weekly workshops, speakers, film screenings and other events. Please get in touch if you want to facilitate a workshop or organize an event, with spoonvolunteers@gmail.com

Catering: We cater anywhere on campus – check out our catering menu at www.seasonedspoon.ca/catering-1. Our fare is local, organic, and reasonably priced.

Membership: As a co-op we sell memberships – they are $10 for the year. Come get yours anytime Mon- Fri 9:00 -4:00 while classes are in session. Becoming a member supports the Spoon’s work as a not for profit, and educational organization. Members enjoy discounted prices on our food and have a voice –they can vote for our board of directors, come to our AGM, become a volunteer!

KEY PRINCIPLES:

Acting as an alternative to the processed, institutional offerings of the larger food service corporations on campus, the Spoon's mission is ‘To grow a regional food system that is sustainable, inclusive and just’.

Our key principles are to:

1) Serve ethically sourced, fairly traded, locally or organically grown foods that meet diverse dietary needs.

2) Be structured as a cooperative and be accountable to our members.

3) Be a community-driven, not for profit, social enterprise.

4) Increase awareness, encourage advocacy, and inspire action around food issues through education and by fostering active debate.

5) Offer learning opportunities through paid and volunteer positions, community-based research, and educational programming.

6) Maintain the Café as a food common at Trent University and encourage the development of other community food spaces.

7) To strengthen the Peterborough food system and to promote food justice within our community.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

"Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system."
