Hi gang, it's Universal Collective Arthur here. Let this missive serve as notice that Arthur, as a cooperatively governed non-profit organization, is hosting its Spring Elections on April 15, 2026. This will be held in the John at Sadleir House from 5 to 7 PM. Refreshments will be served.

Spring Elections marks one of two key annual governance events for Arthur, where our Staff Collective elects three Staff Collective Directors to our Board of Directors and the Editors for the next volume, Volume 61.

Here at Arthur, we’re governed by two distinct membership pools: our Membership (consisting of all full-time and part-time students of Trent University and anyone who applies and is approved by the Board) or our Staff Collective

The Staff Collective are made up of those who’ve been involved in the production and publishing of Arthur over the course of a calendar year (April 2025 - April 2026), contributing a minimum of 15% to our issues both in-print and online.

Anyone who has written two (2) articles (not including letters to the editors), or otherwise contributed to two (2) print issues or podcast episodes in an original and intentional way is part of the Staff Collective (so, for instance, using assets or file photos from past designers or photographers does not count).

This includes both paid staff and volunteer contributors, so if you’ve been engaged with Arthur over the past year, you’re eligible to vote and run for the Board or editorship. It’s also noteworthy that previous Editors are permanent Staff Collective members, which means they too can vote or proxy their vote to a current Staff Collective member.

Our Staff Collective play an important role in the continuation of Arthur: as members of our Board, they oversee our organization’s operations and have a direct say in financial and logistical aspects of the organization.

To become a Staff Collective Director on our Board, you must be a Staff Collective Member in good standing at the time of your election. Members of the Staff Collective are nominated to run for the Board, so you can submit your own nominations to the Board or nominate yourself from the floor at Spring Elections night. Do be prepared to introduce yourself and tell the Staff Collective why you want to be on the Board and what you can contribute to Arthur

Staff Collective Directors serve a year-long term spanning from April 2026 to April 2027. To submit your nomination or for more information on what being a Staff Collective Member entails, please contact board@trentarthur.ca.

The Staff Collective also elect the next Editorial team to publish and manage Arthur for the next publishing year. Anyone in the Staff Collective is eligible to run for the Editorship, provided they are a member in good standing at the time of their election. The deadline for editorial platforms is March 16th, 2026. This is to meet our next print deadline and our obligation to publish the details of our Spring Elections in print.

Any editorial campaign submission must include the following:

  • An editorial platform (max 1000 words) explaining who you are, why you want to be editor, and what you intend to do if elected. Also, a photo of your team, so we know who you are! Check out examples of past editorial platforms here before endeavouring to write your treatise;
  • A draft budget for the next Volume detailing potential expenses and how you want to spend our Scrooge McDuck student journalism fortune. We recommend you take a look at our financial documents from previous years and consult with our Business Manager, Rob Hailman, to get a picture of what Arthur’s financial status looks like.

These documents must be submitted to editors@trentarthur.ca before NOON on March 16, 2026. No exceptions.

Phew! Jeez. That’s a lot of information. If you have any questions about the Staff Collective, Spring Elections, or any questions about voting, pester us at either editors@trentarthur.ca or board@trentarthur.ca. We’re more than happy to talk your ear off about our weird governance model. Our elections agenda and editorial platforms will be posted three weeks in advance of Spring Elections unless another freak weather incident takes place. It's happened before!

Alright, I'll save it for now. Here’s the part you’ve all been waiting for:

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

"Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system."
