Spring is in the air, and The Trent Film Society is pleased to present our slate of screenings for the month of April. Starting with the subtle homoeroticism of stunt-film classic Point Break and ending with the effervescent sincerity of Chungking Express, each of these films explores the depiction of love and desire in cinema.
Throughout April, all films will be screened on Thursdays at Bagnani Hall, starting at 7pm. Come early to catch our hand picked pre-show reel! Masks will be mandatory at all screenings.
Thursday April 7th, at 7pm
A rookie FBI agent (Keanu Reeves) infiltrates an itinerant gang of bank-robbing surfers, led by beach mystic Bodhi (Patrick Swayze, at his most magnetic). The greatest seduction thriller ever filmed, and they don’t even kiss.
“You know you want me Johnny! You want me so bad it’s like acid in your mouth!”
Suggested talking points: the American banking system, homoeroticism in action movies, the female gaze, the sensuality of the sea.

Thursday April 14th, at 7pm
Violet and Corky plot to steal $2 million from Violet’s mafioso boyfriend. A tightly composed neo-noir erotic thriller by the Wachowski sisters that moves with the inevitability of a freight train. Frankly, better than The Matrix.
“Do I make you nervous, Corky? Thirsty, maybe?”
Suggested talking points: movies that fuck, trans film-making, depictions of women's pleasure on screen, femme femme-fatales.
Thursday April 21st, at 7pm
There was for a long time the persistent rumour that David Bowie and Mick Jagger had been an item. Eschewing biography entirely in favour of wild and gleeful abandon, this revisionist alternate-universe vision of the two idols imagines what such a love might have been. Flamboyant, audacious, and beautiful, with a soundtrack as anachronistic as it is perfect.

Suggested talking points: memory and the ways we change, the uses of anachronism, spending 9 million dollars to make a fanfic.
Thursday April 28th, at 7pm
Two policemen fall in love and are terrible at their jobs. One of them talks to a wet towel. The other gets into an argument about expired cans of pineapple. In both cases it’s somehow both hilarious and heartbreaking. There’s a manic pixie dream girl who is a weird stalker and also a metaphor. There are only two musical cues and they never get old.
“It's still a very emotional towel.”
Suggested talking points: manic pixie dream girls, All Cops Are Sad, "I can fix him."
